Common questions

How do I set up Warp Words?

Install Warp Words on the child's iPad. It is the child's game. If you have an iPhone, install it there too: on an iPhone the app is the parent's app, with Week, Progress, Settings and iPad tabs. The game itself is for iPad only.

A new iPad opens on "Warp Words is paused". Tap "For grown-ups" at the bottom right and pass the grown-up check. From there you can load the week's words (type or paste them, or photograph the spelling sheet), check the pictures and sentences, and start the free trial. After that the iPad opens on the game.

You do not need an iPhone. A parent can do the whole setup on the iPad.

How do I pair the iPhone and the iPad?

Pairing links the parent's iPhone to the child's iPad through iCloud, so both devices must be signed in to iCloud. The iPhone scans a code shown on the iPad, then the iPad scans a code shown on the iPhone. Both then show the same confirmation. After that the iPhone sends the week's words and the subscription end date to the iPad, and the iPad sends the child's progress back.

If the devices do not pair, check that both are online and signed in to iCloud, then try again.

How does the subscription work, and how do I cancel?

Warp Words Plus costs £2.99 a month or £24.99 a year. It starts with 2 weeks free. Nothing is charged during the trial, and you can cancel before it ends.

To cancel, open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Warp Words Plus, and choose to cancel. Do this at least 24 hours before the end of the trial or the current period. Apple handles payment, cancellation and refunds, so refund requests go to Apple. Family Sharing is on, so the subscription can also be used by your family.

How do I restore a purchase?

On the child's iPad or the parent's iPhone, open the Warp Words Plus screen (you need to pass the grown-up check first) and tap Restore at the top right. Restore uses the same Apple Account that made the purchase. If the subscription is on a family member's account, check that Family Sharing is on for you.

What is the grown-up PIN, and what if I forget it?

The grown-up check keeps children out of the parent's screens, the subscription and purchases. The first time, you press and hold a button for two seconds, answer a multiplication question, and choose a 4-digit PIN. After that, you type the PIN. Three wrong tries lock the check for 30 seconds. The PIN is kept on the device only, as a salted hash, and you can change it in Settings.

If you forget it, tap "Forgot PIN?" on the grown-up check. You repeat the first-time check (hold the button, answer the multiplication, choose a new PIN).

What is sent to your server?

Only the spelling words and their sentences, and only when the AI features are on, together with an anonymous device check and the subscription receipt. Nothing about your child is sent. The privacy policy has the details.
